Facts and Events
My grandmother Vera also spent time with my uncle, James Monroe Lyon in Tulsa , a good sized stocky guy who smoked Camel non filters with a full head of white hair. He had started his career in a dry goods company called Rice-stix to evolve into an sales agent for Levi Strauss and Company. He would send us Harry and David's fruit of the month and some years Aunt See's Chocolates in addition to sending $5 for my birthday every year and sent a toy Rambler station wagon with boat and trailer for Christmas one year. He also wanted us to know the finer things in life. It was thanks to him that I first tasted white chocolate. My uncle was a gin (cards) fan and a real coffee buff. He`d never wash his coffee cup saying it would ruin the flavor of the coffee to wash the cup. His entourage said this about his tastes "Yes, I remember that Vera really liked her iced tea and my dad liked his coffee. Once when he was on the road, he asked a waitress for a glass of iced coffee and she had never heard of it so he ordered a cup of coffee and a glass of ice and had his iced coffee anyhow". My uncle Jim loved to wake early in the morning to listen to the short wave police scanner to hear what was happening around town. I heard him say he spent a lot of time at the Broken Arrow Sheriff’s dept. My uncle was an early riser; 4-5am. One of his favorite expressions was' Good afternoon'. which he would use in the morning to ridicule those who got up 'late' 8-9am (myself for one). He told me one day that he loved the song "Paloma Blanca" and was fond of epicurean "Cordon Bleu" cuisine. Babo Image Gallery
