James D. Knotts, 69, of Elyria, Ohio, died Monday, July 9, 2001. He was born in Orma, the son of the late Earl and Lalah Knotts. Surviving are one son, Carl Knotts; two daughters, Maureen and Margaret; three brothers, Charles, Holt and Clyde Knotts; and four sisters, Maxine Foutty, Emmagene Burcal, Earlene Moore and Kathleen Traywick. He was preceded in death by one sister, Arlene-Dobbins, and one brother, Dale Knotts. Services were held at Busch-Curtis-Schaffer Chapel, Elyria, Ohio. Burial was in Evergreen Cemetery, South Amherst, Ohio.

James D. Knotts, 69, of Elyria, died Monday in his home following a brief illness. Born in Arnoldsburg, W.Va., he had been a resident of Elyria for the past 21 years. He served in the Army as a medic during the Korean War.

Mr. Knotts retired from the maintenance department of Ridge Tool in Elyria in 1983. He worked for many years in construction and was employed by Star Builders in South Amherst. He enjoyed the outdoors, fishing and spending time with his grandchildren.

Survivors include his daughters Maureen Hall, of Elyria, and Margaret Kelley, of Grayson, Ky.; a son, Carl Knotts, of Cleveland; seven grandchildren; brothers Charles, of Avon Lake, Clyde, of Arnoldsburg, W.Va., and Holt, of Memphis, Tenn.; sisters Earlene More, of Tampa, Fla., Emma Gene Burcal, of Arnoldsburg, W.Va., Kathleen Traywick, of Northville, Mich., and Maxine Foulty, of Alaska; and good friend and buddy, Shawn Dyer, with whom he shared his home.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William E. and Lalah Knotts (nee Keith); a brother, Dale Knotts; and a sister, Arlene Dobbins.

Friends may call 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Busch-Curtis-Scheuffler Family Chapel, 114 Second St., where funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday. The Rev. Bill Shomo of Sugar Ridge Baptist Church will officiate. Interment will be at Evergreen Cemetery in South Amherst.
