James' middle initial taken from the death record of his son, Robert Francis Jackson. A comment from the letter by John Hampton Jackson: "James Jackson, who was born October 31st, 1799, could speak the German language. His father and mother came from Germany and his father was a soldier in the Revolutionary War. This making all the sons on both the Chritchlow and Jackson side of the family eligible to membership in the Society of the Sons of the American Revolution. A remarkable feature in the history of the ten children of R. F. and Phebe S. Jackson is, that there has not been a death amongst the seven children, since February 10th, 1857 - a period of 59 years."
