- ↑ 5.0 5.1 James N. Gotee, brother of Mrs. E. S. Williams, died at his residence in Saginaw City, on the morning of December 8, 1867, aged 53 years. Mr. Gotee was born in Cayuga county, New York, August 29, 1814. More than thirty years since he came to this state, making Pontiac his temporary resting place. Thence he removed to Saginaw in 1836, so that for thirty one years he has been a resident among us. The estimation in which he was held by his fellow citizens is evinced by the fact that he was elected to the office of justice of the peace and afterwards to that of county register, an office which he held for two terms. He was also placed in the responsible position of postmaster for eight years, in Saginaw City. He retired from the discharge of his official duties without the imputation of a stain upon his character. From earliest years he was a religious man, performing every duty, social, domestic and religious, with the utmost fidelity. tits end was peace. At 5 o'clock Sunday morning he gently fell asleep.
At that self same hour, of the self same week day, on which the Lord of Glory burst the bonds of death, the emancipated spirit of James N. Gotee, we humbly trust and believe, was with the Lord. "Let me die the death of the righteous, and let my last end be like his."--From the funeral sermon of Rev. I. Leach.
