From: DEPOSITION L Minor's claim for Civil War Pension

On this 24th day of March, 1891 State of Michigan before me I.S. Little a special examiner of the Pension Office, personally appeared James D. Gibbs who, being first duly sworn to answer all interrogatories propunded to him during this special examination of aforesaid pension claim deposes and says My age is 42, the 19th day of last February, a farmer. My residence & PO address as above stated.

Alfred O Gibbs, who was a soldier in the late war was my older brother.

2. Do you know the dates of birth of any of your brother Alfred's children?

I do not except for the oldest one. I remember That Theron was born the day I was 21 years old. This is from my own recollections. I was living with my parents on the old homestead in this town and the child was born in our house.

I have no knowledge of the dates of birth of any of the other children nor the deaths of any. I probably would not have remembered the date of birth of Theron had it not occurred the day I was 21 years old.

I have no interest in this claim for pension.

I understand your questions and my answers are correctly recorded in this deposition.

2. Have you at any time had any conversation or correspondence with either the mother or guardian of these children, as to the dates of their birth with reference to a pension?

No sir, I have not. I have never met the mother since she went to Tennessee. I have had no correspondence with either in relation to it.
