James D. Fouts was born 10 Aug 1810 (per tombstone) in Wilkes Co, NC (per 1850 and 1860 census). What does his middle initial stand for?

James seems to be home with his parents for the 1810 census (aged "under 10", born ca 1800/10, though it is possible this is not him), and still home in 1820 (aged "under 10", born ca 1810/20), and still home in 1830 (age 15-19, born ca 1810/15).

James moved with his parents and siblings to Macon County, North Carolina in the 1830's.

In July 1835 Court, James D. Fouts and others (including J. M. Waters, actually M. J. Waters, his brother-in-law) were bondsman for Eli Collins to become Constable. (Macon Co, NC Court Minutes 1833-1836 pg 86).

On 21 Jan 1836, James Fouts obtained a marriage bond in neighboring Haywood County to marry Rebecca Barnes. The marriage bond listed her father as Thomas Barnes. Elihu Barnes was bondsman. Rebecca was born 16 May 1818 (per tombstone) in Burke County, North Carolina (per 1850 census) or Iredell County, NC (per 1860 census), daughter of Thomas Barnes and Elizabeth ---.

On 12 Nov 1836, Samuel H. Waters (brother-in-law) sold James Fouts 72 acres on Burningtown Creek. The deed was witnessed by Eli Collins and William Fouts (brother) (Macon Co, NC Deed Book C page 1143)

On 12 Dec 1836, James Fouts received two State Land Grants in Macon County, one for 50 acres, and one for 153 acres. (Macon Co, NC Deed Book C page 1119 and 1120)

James Fouts was listed as a juror in January 1839 Court. (Macon Co, NC Court Minutes 1833-1836 pg 25).

James Fouts was listed on the 1840 census in Macon Co, NC. They were next do Michael J. Waters (married James' sister Rebecca Fouts), and Elihu Barnes whom I think is Rebecca Barnes Fouts' brother, or at least somehow related to her. James Fouts had several "extra" young people with him, who were they? No way to be sure.
