James Edmonson was born on 17 January 1805, in Kentucky, United States, his father, John Edmondson, was 48 and his mother, Belinda Derlander Delany Norris, was 40. He married Jane Beavers before 1833. They were the parents of at least 4 sons and 7 daughters. He lived in New Madrid, Louisiana Territory, United States in 1850. He died on 13 June 1858, in New Madrid, Missouri, United States, at the age of 53.
