James DENNISTOUN was b. 17mar1803 at Cardross, Dunbartonshire (IGI) and d. 1855 (Latter day saints). James Dennistoun of Dennistoun was an advocate, magistrate and deputy lieut.; he married 1835 Isabella Katharina MURRAY, daughter of Hon. James Wolfe Murray of Cringletie (Genealogical and heraldic dictionary of landed gentry, 1863). Isabella Katharine Murray was b. 18may1808 at Eddlestone, Peebles, daughter of James Wolfe Murray (IGI). James Wolfe Murray (5jan1759-29may1836) married Isabella Katharine Strange (d. 24dec1847) 7apr1807 (web). James Dennistoun d. s. p. 13feb1855; Isabella d. apr1864 (Burke's landed gentry, 2001). Scottish archives have the will of Isabella Katherine Dennistoun alias Murray, spouse of James Dennistoun, reg. 1855 and 1864 (scotlandspeople); death date unclear but earlier will may have to do with her husband’s death. James wrote books about art and history; the “Book of Dumbartonshire” (1879) was greatly indebted to his extensive researches (archive.org). In 1841 James Dennistoun (1806, b. outside county, land holder) and Isabella (1811 Midlothian) were at 5 Forres St., Edinburgh; in 1851 James Denniston (1803, Renfrewshire, landed proprieter, advocate) and wife Isabella C. (1809 Edinburgh) were at 113 George St., Edinburgh (census). James sold the family estate of Colgrain 1836 to Colin Campbell (1782-1863), who married Janet Miller Hamilton (b. 1795) References
