1850 Census lists James in the household of Hardy Croom andEster. In 1860 he is listed as Jas Croom and his wife as Ann.They are on the same page as his father in the Holly ShelterTownship of New Hanover County. He did marry in New HanoverCounty. James died between 1861 and 1870. He was not in the1870 census and Elizabeth and their only child Auaford (Oscar)were living with her parents in Wilmington. I have found nomilitary records that would suggest that he fought and died inthe war, but it is entirely possible. I do know that the landwas left to Elizabeth and if she were to remarry, it would havegone to Oscar immediately.
