Facts and Events
James Cromar’s origins have yet to be established. His first confirmed sighting is on 18th June 1786 when he married Jean Sutherland at Old Machar in Aberdeenshire, the parish centred on Old Aberdeen. James and Jean went on to have twin girls the following year, whose baptism notes that the family lived at Foresterhill, which was a farm at that time surrounded by open fields about a mile and a half west of both Aberdeen and Old Aberdeen. James was described as a farmer at the time. In 1792 they had another daughter baptised at Old Machar. James and Jean have yet to be traced after 1792. Many years later, one of James’s daughters' death certificates describes him as a crofter, suggesting he was a relatively small scale farmer. |
