- Colville, James, entered service 1777 in Winchester, [Frederick County], Virginia; born 10/7/1757 in Frederick County, Virginia, resided in Shenandoah County, Virginia, during Revolutionary War; granted Pension 1832 in Newark Township, Licking County, Ohio; died 12/30/1838; query letter in file in 1930 from Grace F.W. Colville, Newark, Ohio, states soldier is buried in Wilson Cemetery near Newark, Ohio, further querier was the great granddaughter of soldier's brother John (Colville), who was a Revolutionary War soldier, & his wife was Mary Jamieson. R617.

James Colville Birth 7 Oct 1757 Frederick County, Virginia, USA Death 29 Dec 1838 (aged 81) Newark, Licking County, Ohio, USA A soldier of the Revolution. Was known as "Uncle Jimmy". He never married, but lived close by his brother John and sister, Mrs. Jacob Wilson. He enlisted at Winchester, Virginia, in August 1777, as a private in Capt. John Neiswanger's Co., Col. John Gibson's Regiment. Among other duties he acted as an Indian spy under Col. Wm Herrod, and was at Piqua with Col. Geo. Rogers, Clark's Expedition.
In the same little cemetery is John Colville, died July 9, 1892, aged 82 yrs., and another John and a Robert, both tombstones broken and defaced.
