He was the son of Fred and Edna Howard Callahan. On Jan. 12, 1951, James was united in marriage to Harriet Crumrine in Chillicothe, Ill. She survives.
Other survivors include two daughters, Dawn Callahan and Tina Gibson and her husband, Terry; three sons, Ronald James Callahan and his wife, De, William Dean Callahan and his wife, Janet and Michael Owen Callahan and his wife, Linda; eight grandchildren, Jim Moberg, Sam DiFederico, Mike Gibson, Sara Gibson, Tim Callahan, Jennifer Admire, Sean Callahan and Erica Dringenberg; five great-grandchildren; and one sister, Jeanne Magnuson.
He was preceded in death by two granddaughters, Tera Gibson and Jennifer Eddy.
He was a veteran of the United States Army and proudly served his country during the Korean Conflict.
He had been employed with the Santa Fe Railroad for 44 years, retiring in 1992.
