... Col. Ball was a vestryman of St. Stephen's Par., North'd Co., 1744-1789. Mr. James Ball was elected Oct., 1744, to fill Mr. Richard Chichester's place, and took the oath Nov. 12, 1744. Mr. James Ball, Jr., rec'd 400 lbs tobacco for keeping ----- * "In memory of Col. James Ball, sd son of James and Mary Ball, his sd wife, daughter of Edwin Conway. Born Dec. 31, 1718. p 96 - John Hogan in 1744. In 1745 he was elected Church Warden when James Ball, Sr., was in the vestry. Aug. 16, 1751, the vestry ordered that Colonel James Ball, Jr., and Major Peter Conway agree with workmen to build a house for the glebe. In 1756 he sold Geo. Chewning an estate he had bought of Wm. Ball, Gent. In 1760 he was appointed to procession the land. Was frequently Ch. Warden, and July 22, 1785, elected Treasurer. He was, with Col. Thomas Gaskins, exec'r of Maj. Peter Conway's Est. (CONWAY 13.) He was also Burgess for Lanc'r Co., 1755, resigning that year to accept the office of Sheriff. For many years he was a Delegate, and in 1788 Mem. Va. Convention.
