About Jacob Zent, Jr.

Jacob Zent names in his will: (probated 1845) Samuel Zent and Jacob Bowman of Stark County, Ohio, the land on which daughter Susanna and her husband Jacob Snider now live; in trust for said Susanna and her children; Samuel Cover, married to daughter Elizabeth, $300, to purchase land in Crawford County, Ohio; children of son John, dec'd, his son Jacob; children of daughter Catherine Myers, dec'd, her son Samuel Miller; son Samuel; daughter Sarah, married to Samuel Spoonhour; Polly Wingert married to John Wingert; daughter Mary married to Jacob Bowman; daughter Nancy, lately married to John M. Green and now dec'd; Nancy's children; Son John, dec'd., has 4 children; the clothing belonging to me or my deceased wife are to be disposed of be my executors amony my heirs at private sale, if that cannot be done, then to the poor. Executors: Grandson Samuel Miller, son of my daughter Catherine, dec'd and Samuel Myers married to my grandaughter Susanna, being a daughter of my son John Zent, dec'd. An additional executor was Jacob Eberly, married to my grandaughter Polly, daughter of my son John Zent, dec'd. (Penn. Achives, 5th series, Vol. 7, p. 561)

Jacob was incorrectly identified as serving in the Revolutionary War under Captain Michael Moyer, 1778-1779 in "American Revolutionary Soldiers of Franklin County, Pennsylvania". This is unlikely since he would have been 15 years old at the time. (This was his father, Jacob.) However, he most probably was the Jacob Zent that served in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania in 1784 with Capt. Reams 6th Battallion, 3rd Class (Penn. Archives 6th series, Vol. 3, p. 541,548), and "Return of Male" 4th Compamy, 1st Battallion of Dauphin County, Pennsylvania in 1786 (Penn. Archives 6th series, Vol. 3, p. 359). Since Dauphin County was established in 1785 (previously part of Lancaster County), this would explain the different locations.
