About Jacob Smith

Jacob Smith was born before 1766, perhaps well before. I can't be more specific based on the few records I've found for him. An old DAR application lists his birth as 1740, but I don't know what that is based on.

Jacob Smith was mentioned in Feb 1787 court as living on or near Watauga River in Washington Co., NC (now Carter Co., TN). (Washington Co, NC Court of Pleas and Quarter Sessions Volume 1 1778-1779, p. 274)

Jacob Smith was listed on the 1796 and 1798 tax lists in Carter Co., TN.

Jacob was named in the 11 Feb 1807 Carter Co., TN Will of his father Edward Smith as a son.

Jacob Smith made his Will in Carter Co., TN on 7 Oct 1822. He named his wife Mary Smith, his sons Daniel Smith and Ezekiel Smith; and daughter Selah George; and son-in-law Lawson Goodwin (actually a stepson); step-daughter Mary Vaught and granddaughter Selah Smith. Sons Daniel and Ezekiel Smith were named as Executors. Witnesses were Lawson White and Thomas Berry.
