Late in 1960 my mother became pregnant with me. It was when she was several months pregnant that her father took his life by hanging himself from some water pipe in the bathroom. He had had a stroke sometime before this and was left paralyzed on one side of his body. He was unwilling to live this way and choose to commit suicide.
