Jacob Green, s/o Capt. Thomas and Mary Read, b. "7th of sixth month, 1663", m. Dec 1693 Elizabeth Green. Will dated 5 Jan 1742, wife still living.
[Note: the published Salem VRs, show the following for Jacob, s/o Thomas and Mary: b. 22 Feb 1658/59, d. 22 Feb 1658/59, b. 7 Aug 1662, d. 19 Nov 1663. There is also a baptism with unspecified parents on 7 Nov 1663. Reed makes these dates work by
    1. misreporting the second birth as 1663
    2. misreporting the second death as 1662, and
    3. ignoring the first death so he can apply the second death to the first Jacob
In other words he assumed multiple errors (to put it kindly, looks like blatant massaging of data). In covering this family, Savage (Vol. 3, p. 518) says "Yet here, without doubt, is some confus. and more Omis. I feel sure there were two, and prob. three Thomases contempo. at Salem." Following Savage's suggestion, it seems the most probable explanation might be that the Jacob bp. 7 Nov 1663 and who d. 19 Nov 1663 belonged to a different Thomas Read of Salem. To assume all these records belong in one family, as Reed did, either requires assuming multiple errors, or the introduction of a third son named Jacob to account for the one who survived. Perley, Vol. 3, p. 30, shows both sons of Thomas and Mary named Jacob dying, and gives Jacob, bp. 7 Nov 1663, to father "--- Read", along with Elizabeth bp. 13 May 1655.]
