  19. "In 1885 Jacob became a clerk in his uncle Abraham's hardware store inConvoy, Ohio. He worked there from 1885 until 1898 during which time hemay have also taught school. He married at the Belle Webster onNovember 3, 1892. He also received teachers certificates for the years1888 and 1889. These certificates indicated that he possessed anadequate knowledge of the Theory and Practice of teaching and wasqualified to teach the following subjects: for the year 1889-Orthography[a language study that deals with letters and spelling] for one year,Arithmetic 5 years, Physiology one year, Reading five years, Writingfour years, English Grammar one year, Geography 5 years, and U.S.History 5 years. After working for his uncle for 13 years, and 1899, hebecame a McCormick Deering dealer [farm equipment] in Convoy, Ohio untilhis death in 1935. That McCormick Deering farm equipment wasmanufactured by the International Harvester located in Fort Wayne,Indiana. Jacob was joined in business by his oldest son Floyd, who tookover the business after he died, in 1935."
