    - Note: there are several Ancestry Member Trees (and other sources) citing a birthdate of Jacob Helms in 1745 and his wife Mary Burton in 1748, but both of these dates are problematic considering their eldest son John was born in 1761, which would have made Jacob age 16 and his wife age only age 13, which is highly unlikely given the marriage customs of Colunial Virginia. Additional research is necessary.

    Notes for JACOB HELMS: Jacob Helm was born September 11 1745 and died in 1780 in Back Creek in Botetourt County Virginia (near Roanoke - there are several Back Creeks in Virginia) he was married twice his first wife is unknown his second wife only known as Mary Ann, she died Mar 18 1828 in Calloway, Virginia. Jacob was crippled in a horse riding accident during the war and his son John went in as a substitute for his father. Jacob Helm was killed in 1780 while helping family members clear land to build a house when a tree fell on him.

    His children were very young at the time of the accident that killed Jacob it was confirmed by his son John that he was dead.

    At the time of his death his wife Mary Ann who was not much older than his son John born in 1761 took the children to live with Jacob Prillarman (born 1752 and died 1840), and his wife Walburga Helm it is not known what relation they were to Jacob Helm.
