Facts and Events
Isabella Westmorland was born on 17th September 1852 at South Hylton in the township of Ford in the parish of Bishopwearmouth, County Durham. She was the daughter of Ann Westmorland, formerly Bradshaw, and her husband Robert Westmorland, a joiner. Isabella had a twin sister called Jane. Sadly, Isabella died as a small baby, being buried at South Hylton on 29th October 1852, when she was only one month old.

There was also a Jane Ann Westmarland registered on the same volume and page, which often indicates twins. This theory is supported by the fact that we know Jane was baptised in 1854 at the small village of South Hylton, which is the same place that Isabella had been buried. Jane was the daughter of Robert Westmorland, whose mother was called Isabella, adding further weight to the argument that they were twins. Jane's mother Ann also reported in the 1911 census that she'd had three children, all of whom had died, and there are only three Westmorland burials at South Hylton, Isabella's being one of them. Therefore, whilst it would be necessary to obtain the above birth certificate to be absolutely sure, it seems reasonable to conclude that Isabella was a twin to Jane.
