Sperling-A highly esteemed citizen of this community was called to the
beyond last week in the person of Isabella Eleanor Waddell, widow of
Robert Bruce Waddell, who diedin 1815. Mrs. Waddell passed away Saturday,
July 18, at the age of 88 years and three months. Born in Scotland, the
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Slessor ofAberdeenshire , she came to
Canada at the age of six years . Her parents located in Ontario, and she grew up there and married Mr. Waddell January 31, 1873.In 1894 they came
to Manitoba from Mount Forest, Out. and located at Sperling.
MrS. Waddell is survived by two sons and four daughters. The sons are
JohnR. Waddell and W.J. Waddell of Sperling, and the daughters are Mrs.
McConnellof Haywood, Wisconsin; Mrs. John [Hunter; Mrs.] Harry Mogk and Miss Vina Waddell of Sperling. She leaves also 29 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.
Thefuneral took place at Sperling Monday afternoon. Service at , he
United Church was conducted by Rev. Dr. Johnson and internment was made
in Sperling cemetery. Pallbearers were six grandsons of Mrs. wadde11; Stanley, Gordon, Chester and Kenneth Waddell, Murray Mogk and Chester Waddell.
[ed. note--there were nottwo Chester Waddells. The sixth one would have been another of Jack's sons: Lewis, Reuben, Robert, or William.]

(Research):The original Fairbairn Presbyterian Church was a log structure built in 1865 on Lot 20, Con. 12. The land was donated by Mrs. William Fairbairn. It was replaced bythe present stone structure in 1882. The site of the present church was donated by Thomas Dodds.
