On 1870 census, age 8, with mother and step-father, Abe Hockman, in Laurel Twp., Hocking Co., Oh.[p 510, fam #271/274] In 1880, age 19, he continues in the home, now listed in Marion Twp., Hocking Co., Oh.[ED 63, p 27, fam #249/249] Chloe was the daughter of Philemon and Catharine (Seitz) Hoffert. We are told the name was "Americanized" to Hufford. He is on the 1900 census, age 39 , a farmer in Rush Creek Twp., Fairfield Co., Oh. With him is wife Chloe, age 37. She declares they have been married 15 years and she has born 7 children, three alive at this time.[E D 21, p 13B, fam # 276/276] In 1910, Isaac, now 49, is still farming his land. Choe, 47, declares they have been married 25 years and she has born 9 children, 5 alive at this time.[E D 76, p 9A, fam #194/203] In 1920, Isaac, 58, continues to farm in Rush Creek. Wife Chloe, 56, continues to care for the home.[ED 31, p 10B, fam #261/266] On his death certificate, info supplied by descendant Ruth Ann (Brehm) Rutherford, we see that he was 66 yrs,5 mo, 18 days; cause of death - heart trouble; occupation - retired farmer. Ruth Ann shares with us that she remembers her maternal great-grandmother as a stern, German-speaking woman who lived to be 98. On the 1930 census, Chloe E is head of household on property valued at $4000. She is 67 and a widow. Her son, Roy and his bride live in the home with her at 353 Ford St., Bremen Village, Rush Creek Twp., Fairfield Co., Oh. (ED 23-31, p. 1A, fam #2/2)
