1860 census says he can not read or write. Listed both with his parents in Greene, ME at 1860 census and with his wife Harriet in Dover, ME. In Dover, ME at 1870 census which says born in Albany, NY, an error, real estate valued at $1000, personal estate at $150. Living in Augusta, as Farm Hand, without family at 1880. In Turner at at 1890 Veterans Schedule and 1900, 1910 and 1920 census. Listed in 1910 & 1916 Turner Directory as a farmer and mail carrier. Listed in 1920 Turner Directory as retired. In 1921 pension application says he is "farming some and stage driver."

Enrolled 09 October 1861 in Company A, 5th Regiment, Maine Infantry. Discharged 12 January 1863, as a private. Reported sick 23 June 1862: Fever 28 June 1862: illness listed as "Rheumato." 29 June 1862-12 January 1863: Chronic Nephritis 30 June 1862: Left sick in Hospital at Liberty Hall Discharged 12 January 1873 at US General Hospital in Philadelphia, listing Epilepsy as making him incapable of performing duties as a soldier

Civil War Pension Application 21 November 1921 says he was 5'10" with dark complexion, black eyes and hair. And suffering from incontinence, a large hernia and old age. Pension Application and Marriage Certificate says he was born in Waterford, ME, but death certificate says Albany, ME.

On Death Certificate, Dr. H.L. Trish writes cause of death "unknown. I did not see him. Died Suddenly. Had No Dr."
