Facts and Events
He was a farmer at Harrisons, Westchester County. During the Revolutionary War his farm was nearly ruined, as it was so situated as to be alternately occupied by both armies. Being "a Friend," he took no active part in the struggle. At the battle of White Plains a skirmish took place in a rye-field near his house, the wounded being cared for there, where at that time a portion of the American army was quartered. He was taken sick with "camp fever," and died May 21, 1778. His will is dated September 4, 1777 and was not proved until May 21, 1783 (a consequent of the war). He was a preacher in the Society of Friends. References
