Imogene Dawson, 89, of OKC, died Tues., Sept. 4, 2007, knowing that her heavenly Father was there. She was born in Kingston, OK, Nov. 27, 1917, and moved to Bethany with her family in 1932.

Graduating from Bethany High School, she attended Bethany Peniel College, now SNU. She had a natural ear for music and loved playing the piano for gospel quartets. In addition to musical talent, she thought in poetry form and copyrighted five of her books including INDIAN: Food For The Body Food For The Soul and Indian Leaves, Lovers and Loneliness. She also wrote American Indian Food. These publications included her poetry, music she had written or interpreted into different tribal languages, old recipes sent by friends of many tribes, and artwork by American Indian artists. She published an English to Choctaw Dictionary and the Choctaw Hymn Book, later donated to twenty-three churches, including her own Mary Lee Clark, UMC. A member of the Choctaw tribe and former chaplain to the Oklahoma Federation of Indian Women, her spiritual ways, gentle soul, wisdom, and goodness will be missed. Time for the nurturing of these talents and abilities was made possible by thirty years of property investments and keen business acumen. Her last years were made most enjoyable by the friends and the staff at Jefferson's Garden Assisted Living Center in Edmond.

Imogene is survived by Janet Theus, her beloved daughter; cherished grandchildren, Scott Z Rodgers of OKC, Dana K Theus and husband, Richard Paddock of Arlington, VA; great-grandchildren, Jeffrey Alton Paddock and Benjamin Theus Paddock; and her finest friends, Harold, and Dolores Theus.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Reasor Moore Dawson & Frances (Lauchner) Dawson of Bethany; brothers, Earl Dean Dawson of Albuquerque, NM and RM Dawson of Bethany; and sister, Babe Robinson of OKC.

Services will be at 10:00 am Fri., Sept. 7, 2007, at the Mercer-Adams Chapel, Bethany, followed by interment in Chapel Hill Cemetery on Northwest Expressway. MERCER-ADAMS
