The will of Humfrey Elkington, the elder [of Malmsbury] Circa 1540 – 17 Feb 1615/16. In the name of God Amen the seventeenth day of February Anno Domini one thousand sixe hundred and fifteen and in the year of the rayne of our Soverayne Lord King James of England France and Ireland the thirteenth and of Scotland the thirtynine I Humfrey Elkington of Malmsbury in the Countie of Wills Gentleman being sicke and weake in bodie but thanks I give unto Almightie God of good and perfect memorie do make and ordayne this my last will and testament revoking thereby all other wills and testaments whatsoever by me at any time heretofore made. First I will and bequeath my Soule unto Almighty God my maker and assuredly believing that I shal;l ber saved and made partaken of the heavenlie glorye by most precious blood shedding of my alone Saviour and Redeemer Christe Jesus and for my body I commit to the earth whence it came to be buried in the Church of Malmesbury. I give And bequeath to the pore people of Malmsbury twenty Shillings to be distributed by whome my Executors will appoynte. Allso I give and bequeath unto Robert Arche of Malmsbury my right title interest Clayme and demand whatsoever which I nowe have or as right oughte to have in or to one Scase [?] of the Farm and borough of Malmsbury made and confirmed unto me and others by the late Quene Elizabeth with the said State allso All the rest if my goods and chattels whatsoever of what nature or qualitie whatsoever no herein given and bequest I give and bequeath unto Maude my wife whom I make my sole and only Executrix. Trill Further the said Humfrey Elkington doth saye the Mr. William Elkington of Biestone [or Barstone] with his twelve pounds which he have no securitie for Thoms.
