HUGH HARRY was born in 1660 in Machynlleth, Montgomery County, Wales,

Hugh is buried at the Radnor Monthly Meeting.

Hugh Harry, sometimes called Harris, was a Quaker being noted in Pennsylvania Quaker Records in 1671, 1680, 1681, 1682, and 1685. He was a weaver who immigrated with his brother, Daniel, from "Maukinleth" (Machynlleth) in Montgomeryshire aboard the 'Vine of Liverpoole.' The Ship's master was William Freeson. They arrived in Philadelphia on the 7th month, 17th day, 1684 from "dolyserne nere dolyules in Merionehshire." He settled in Birmingham, Chester County, Pennsylvania on 250 acres of land given to him by his father-in-law, William Brinton, two months after the Quaker records say he and Elizabeth Brinton "were free to proceed" with their marriage plans (2nd month, 12th day, 1686 and4th month, 12 day). They were members of the Radnor Monthly Meeting. Hugh and Elizabeth were witnesses at Elizabeth's brother William's marriage in 1690. On November 19, 1707 he bought an additional 430 acres in Marlborough, Chester County, Pennsylvania which can be verified in Deed records (C-2139).

Elizabeth Brinton, daughter of William and Ann (Bagley) Brinton, was born October 9, 1665 at Worcester, England. In his will, dated June 20, 1699 and proved December 1, 1700, William Brinton of Birmingham, Chester County, among other bequests left to his daughter, Elizabeth, wife of Hugh Harry, 100 pounds. (Abstracts Philadelphia County Wills, Book B, p. 82, GSP Ph 2A:1, p. 165)

In March of 1707/08 Hugh Harris of Birmingham, Chester County, a weaver, and Elizabeth, his wife acknowledged a Deed of October 16, 1707 in which they conveyed to Daniel Davis for 104 pounds a tract of land in Birmingham containing 150 acres. It being a part of the land granted by patent to William Brinton from William Markham and John Goodson, Commissioners of the proprietary dated November 28, 1688, and which 150 acres was, with the other land, conveyed by William Brinton to Hugh Harris and Elizabeth his wife by Deed on June 11, 1695. (Chester County, PA Deed Book B, p. 171, GSP XD Pa Ch. 1)

Neither the dates of death of Hugh and Elizabeth Harris nor the birthdates of their children have been found in the Friends Meeting records.

It is widely published that this Hugh Harry's ancestry goes through many Royal lines.

In Chester County southwest of West Chester and just west of State Highway 32 on Valley Road sits Hugh and Elizabeth's House. It was built by either Hugh Harry and Elizabeth Brinton, sister of the builder of the William Brinton 1704 House, or their son, William who acquired the land from his mother, Elizabeth in 1727. Hugh Harry died in 1708. Features date the house circa 1720. Now with twentieth century additions is known as "Echo Valley Farm." It is still a private residence.
