"Mr. and Mrs. H.M. Wardwell are in receipt of word that their son, Herbert (sic) M. Wardwell, Jr. has arrived safely overseas. Hubert M. Wardwell, Jr. left Rockland for Camp Devens on June 26, being the leader of the Knox County division. On July 2, he was transferred to the 303rd Infantry, 76th Division, and left Camp Devens on July 5. Mr. Wardwell was some years ago a member of Newport band, and was for one year during his university course the leader of the University of Maine Band. He was a member of the class of 1913, U. of M., was for a time located in Bangor and had for the past two years been located in Camden." -Daily Kennebec Journal 08 August 1918

"Hubert M. Wardwell, town moderator, who is vice-president and director of the local insurance exchange, has been elected to the board of directors of the local trust company, it is announced. Well-known in civic and business circles he has been affiliated with several other companies. He fills the vacancy caused by the death of the well-known Burleigh L. Pratt, who died Aug. 13. Mr. Wardwell served as selectman for nine years and has been town moderator since 1946. Formerly, he was a member of the finance committee and general building committee. A member of Corinthian Lodge, AF&AM, he has served as president and member of the board of governors of Concord Country Club. He resides with his wife, at Crescent Road, and the couple has two daughters, both of whom now reside on the west coast." -Lowell Sun 30 September 1954
