When a young man he took charge of the farm of his Aunt Rhoda Baker, the widow of Uncle Joseph Baker, whose farm adjoined his brother's. He lived there several years and after her death he moved to Mechanicville, where he built a home. On Sept.26, 1888, he married Catherine Elizabeth Baucus of Schaghticoke. They had no children.
