Hiram M. Beekley as Child of 2 Made Long Trek from Pennsylvania. Hiram M. Beekley, 74, who came to Black Hawk county in a covered wagon at the age of 2 years, in 1854, whn his parents settled in Orange township, died yesterday at 4:45 p.m. in a local hospital of complications of ailments incident to advanced age. From the time he was able to follow a plow as a sturdy lad he remained on a farm in Orange township until 12 years ago, when he retired and moved to Waterloo, residing at 1227 Bertch avenue. Mr. Beekley was born Sept. 20, 1852, in Somerset county, Pennsylvania. The family came west two years later, making the long journey by wagon. On Sept. 10, 1876, he married Miss Mary E. Hostetler, in Orange township, where they reared their family. He was a member of the Church of the Brethren. Surviving are the widow, two sons, A. H. Beekley, 324 Seventh street west and Carl O. Beekley, Milwaukee, Wis.; three brothers, Norman M Beekley, 320 Commercial street; Ira M. Beekley, San Diego, Cal., and Myron M. Beekley, Empire, Cal., and a sister, Mrs. Joseph Steele, also of Empire. There are four grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
