Irwin, Marie D. Marie D. Irwin, a resident of Stamford [CT], died April 4, 2006, at Stamford Hospital. Marie was born August 11, 1928, in Denning, N.Y., to Walter DePew and Ora Brennan DePew. She is survived by her beloved daughter, Laura Beaudry, and her beloved son-in-law, Mark Beaudry, of Stamford. Marie grew up in the Shawangunk Mountain region of New York State and was a graduate of Ellenville High School in Ellenville, N.Y. In 1953, she married her former high school classmate, Casey Irwin. Marie resided in Napanoch, N.Y., and wintered in Palm Bay, Florida, until 2000, when she and Casey moved to Stamford to be close to their daughter. During her years in Napanoch, Marie enjoyed politics and was a very active member of the Ulster County and Town of Wawarsing Republican Women organization, spearheading many events and campaign activities. She volunteered at the Ellenville School and the Ellenville Hospital. In Stamford, Marie became a member of the Stamford Woman's Club and served on its board. She had a flair for writing and was a regular columnist for the club's newsletter. Marie was a charming and gifted storyteller who reveled in her Irish heritage. She loved poetry and could recite a poem from memory to fit any occasion. She took up golf late in life and became an avid devotee of the sport. Marie was also an animal lover and throughout her life adopted and cared for unwanted or abused pets. Marie will be remembered by all who knew her as a warm-hearted, generous, witty, and extraordinarily brave woman. Her radiant smile and laughing eyes were unforgettable. She will be sadly missed by her family and by all who loved her. A memorial service and tribute to Marie will be held at 3 p.m. on Monday, April 10, at the Leo P. Gallagher & Son Funeral Home, 2900 Summer Street, in Stamford. Donations in memory of Marie can be made to the Arthritis Foundation's Hope Through Heroes program, on the Internet at www.arthritis.org, where you can also post a personal tribute.
