    Bldg/Died Dec 19, 1912 at Alert Bay, BC, Mr Olden Westley Huson, better known as ‘West’, aged 81, n/o NY, and came to BC from CA in 1858, going 1st to the Fraser Rv mines and then to the Cariboo diggings. In the early 1860s he came back to the coast and ran a pack train up the Bella Coola far into the interior. Then he operated a trading schooner from Nanaimo up the east coast VI for a few yrs. He afterwards started a store at Socwash, nr where the mining operations were being carried on. From there he came to Alert Bay, where he purchased a store. In 1881 he went into partnership with late T Earle and A S Spencer and established a valuable cannery there, which he sold in 1883. Shortly afterwards deceased purchased Haddington I and in partnership with Messrs Rudge & Gray opened the quarry from which the stone for the Parliament and other public bldgs was obtained. He also staked part of Hardy Bay and McNeill hbr.
