Herbert Bridge Homes was born in New Orleans. He graduated from Boys High School.

As a young man he went to Texas and married Ella Morgan. We know little of their marriage except that they had a son, Herbert Morgan Homes. They divorced before 1910 when Herbert was living alone in New Orleans.

In 1920 he is listed as President of Herbert B Homes Co., Inc. (stationary supplies) and living at 2132 Milan Street. The company would become Herbert B. Homes Printing Company, and later was known as Homes Printing Company.

According to his obituary he was active in local politics, running for mayor in 1933-34. He was a jury commissioner by appointment during the administrations of Gov. John M. Parker and Henry L. Fuqua. At one time he was 12th Ward leader for the New Regulars political organization. He was former president of the John McDonogh Foundation. He was active in activities concerning public schools and was the originator of the first radio spelling bee of the local public school system.

He died Saturday morning at 8AM in Hancock General Hospital, Bay St. Louis, Mississippi. He was 85 years old. He was buried next to his wife Elizabeth at Garden of Memories Cemetery.
