Gray, H.W. Firm of Music Publishers.H. Willard Gray (b. Brighton, England, 1868; died Old Lyme, CT. 22 Oct.1950) came to the USA in 1894 to be head of the New York branch ofNovello, Ewer & Co. He bought the office and established his owncompany, H.W. Gray Company Inc., in 1906. Gray Specializes in choral andorgan music and fosters the publication of works by American composers.It also published (c1908) Frederick S Converse's 'The Pipe of Desire',which was the first American Opera to be produced at the MetropolitanOpera (18 March 1910). Gray was aquired by Belwin-Mills in 1971.
