My sister Sally is certain that our grandmother Gray died in the fall (September, prpbably) of 1956. From grandmother's only daughter, our famous Aunt Bab (Edith Gray Davidson), Sally learned that grandmother was in a NYC hospital because she couldn't breathe well. While in an oxygen tent, she asked for her little lace hat she wore to cover up her sparse hair, then breathed a sigh, and passed away peacefully. Sister Sally was a sophomore at Skidmore College in Saratoge Springs, NY when the call came from our mother about grandmother's death. Sis remembers exactly where she was at the time, and the moment, vividly. I was a sophomore at Dartmouth College in Hanover, NH and don't remember a thing (if indeed I was ever told). Don/Woody was in the U.S. Marine Corp. Brother Phil was a nine-year-old at home in Darien, Connecticut.
