ENGAGEMENT: In 1904 he was engaged to Maud Bateman of Kendal, Westmorland, England, United Kingdom.

DEATH: It was whilst he was at his fiancée's mother's house in Kendal, that his condition worsened and he died.

HOBBIES: He was particularly interested in locomotives and trains. Whilst at Bootham he spent many hours at the York station and even managed to ride the footplate on several occasions. Archaeology also fascinated him and his own diaries are well illustrated with his own photographs.

SPORTING_INTERESTS: He played cricket, though he did not excel as had his father. He was a reliable full-back at football and, after he left school played for "The Foxes" club. It is also recalled that he cycled for long distances.
