OLD AND RESPECTED IDENTITY PASSES

Mr. Henry Macquarie York, an old and highly-respected resident of Singleton, passed away peacefully in Dangar Cottage Hospital this morning, after an illness extending a period of about three months. The large circle of friends in this town and district and in the Hunter Valley will regret to learn of the demise of a grand old gentleman, at the age of 82 years. For the greater part of his long span of years, the late Mr. Henry York was associated with Singleton and district, although there was a time when he held the responsible position of manager of the well-known "Segenhoe" Stud, Scone. Until deceased had entered hospital recently, it was his happy boast that he had never occupied a hospital bed. Member of an old family, which numbered amongst the pioneer stock of this district, deceased could relate many stories of interest of the early days. During later years, he lived in Edward Street. His wife predeceased him by some six years. He is survived by four sons and three daughters, the sons being Messrs. Jack (Tamworth), Harold (Singleton), Frederick (Singleton), and Harry (Singleton), and the daughters Mesdames O. R. Watson (Singleton), and N. D. Shearer (Glendon). and Miss Doris York (Singleton). He is also survived by two brothers, Messrs. Charles (Singleton), and Walter (Concord), and one sister, Mrs. David Brown (Cremorne). The remains will be interred in the Church of England cemetery at Whittingham tomorrow (Thursday) afternoon. There will be a service in All Saints' at 3 o'clock.
