Provincial Constable Otway Wilkie this morning received news from Langley of the death there of his father, Henry Wilkie. The deceased gentleman was born in County Meath, Ireland, eighty-four years ago last Christmas Day. He lived in that part of the United Kingdom till he was 67 years of age and for a long time held with offices in Dublin, the positions of assistant registrar-general for Ireland and secretary of the census commission. Seventeen years ago Mr. Henry Wilkie came to British Columbia, whither several of his children had already gone, and settled in Langley, where he had lived ever since. For some time he has held the position of postmaster there. Mr. Wilkie though so far advanced in years, had a wonderful retentive memory and till last Monday was as clear and steady nerved as any of his sons. On that day he was affected with a touch of paralysis and since then had been gradually sinking. Last night he passed away, surrounded by all his children in this country, with the exception of Constable Otway Wilkie, confined in the house with an attack of la grippe. The funeral took place from St George's church, Fort Langley, Feb 6. Rev H. W. Laffete conducted the funeral service. All the sons and daughters in British Columbia were present except one in the interior. The pall bearers were John Maxwell, Jas. Hossack, John Pratt, Allan Campbell, J. Dalglish and Hector Morrison. Mr. Wilkie leaves a widow, 12 sons and daughters and a large number of grandchildren and great grandchildren to mourn his loss.
