Biography

Henry was born May 6 1764 the son of Oliver Wait and Sybil Sackrider (aka Sackenreuter) at "The Halfmoon" in what became Saratoga County, New York. He removed from Saratoga County in 1819 at age 55 to settle 900 Acres in southern Tioga County, NY. That area called Waits Settlement. In the 1820 Census, his sons Henry and William are still living in Saratoga County, but Henry Sr is not enumerated there or at his new location in Tioga County.

Henry married Eunice Shepherd in about 1790 in Saratoga County, New York. Together they had twelve children.

    This transcription was found in a trunk opened in the 1920s that is said to have contained personal artifacts from William WAIT, son of Henry. It lists the family of Oliver WEIGHT with births and deaths, and the family of Henry WAIT with births and deaths. This information was copied and sent by Delphine 'Della' (WAIT) WRIGHT (daughter of John Henry WAIT) to her cousin Almira Harriet 'Mina' (FINCH) HOUSEL (daughter of Mary Delphine (WAIT) FINCH).
