Henry Edward STOKES was born 1841 and died 1926. He married 1st Janet Isabella STOKES (1840-1870). He married 2nd Helena Currie 1872. “On 20oct1926 Sir Henry Edward Stokes died at London. He was born 23jul1841 at Askive, Co. Kerry, son of Henry Stokes of Sneem, Co. Kerry. He married 1st Janet, daughter of Dr. William Stokes, and 2nd Helena, daughter of Surgeon General Currie. He is survived by William (daughter of Janet) and Hopetoun G. Stokes, CIE (Companion, Order of the Indian Empire) (also in Madras Civil Service). H. E. Stokes went to Trinity College, Dublin, and entered Madras Civil Service in 1863. He was secretary to the govt of Madras in 1884. He was noted for remarkable attainments and force of character” (the Times). Sir Henry Edward Stokes, KCSI (1892), ICS, Secretary to Govt of Madras 1883, member of Council of Govt of Madras 1888-93, was born 23july1841, educated at Trinity College, Dublin, married 1st 1865, Janet Stokes (d. 1870), 4th daughter of William Stokes, MD. Henry Edward Stokes married 2nd 1872 Helena Amy CURRY (d. 29jan 1874) (Burke's spelling of Currie wrong). Helena was daughter of Surgeon-General Samuel Curry, CB, MD. Henry Edward Stokes died 20oct1926 (Burke's Irish family records).
