I wonder if your Edward Smith is related to my Henry Smith who was born around 1714 probably in Stafford county and died between 1787 and 1789 in Stafford county. He was married to Sarah Crosby. The family tradition -- reported in sources relating to Henry's son Daniel Smith (soldier and statesman from Tenn.) -- is Henry Smith's father was also a Henry. The family supposedly originated in Staffordshire England emigrated to America and may have first settled in Somerset county Maryland. However that is all unconfirmed. Best regards, Mary Paul Smith Jespersen Denmark
