Henry Martin of Bristol , England, married Mary Sparkes, daughter of Richard Sparkes (born Withy Bush House, Pembroke, England, April 16, 1658) and his wife who, when she married Richard Sparkes, was the widow of Erasmus Carr. Henry Martin's parents were Roger Martin and Hudson, daughter of John Hudson.
Henry Martin and Mary Sparkes were the parents of John Martin whose will, proved in Goochland County, Virginia, in 1787, mentioned three children:
1. Henry Martin. He was in England when his father wrote the will, and is said to have died without issue on a voyage to or from England. 2. Mary Martin who married, before 1767, Matthew Vaughan. John Martin nominated to be his executors his "son Hudson Martin and son- in-law Matthew Vaughan" . 3. Hudson Martin. He was a lieutenant in the Revolutionary War. He married Jane Lewis, daughter of Nicholas Lewis and Mary Walker, daughter of Dr. Thomas Walker, the famous explorer. This Hudson Martin died in Nelson County, Virginia and his descendants are the only descendants of John Martin of Goochland County to have the surname Martin.
The will of John Hudson of the City of BristoI, EngIand, was proved October 13, 1725, and mentions his son-in-law Roger Martin, grandsons George and Henry Martin, granddaughter Mary Martin, great grandsons Hudson Martin and Roger Martin, and great granddaughter Mary Martin. The grandson Henry Martin was the father of John Martin of Goochland County, therefore, John Martin was the great grandson of the decedent, John Martin of Bristol.
