Facts and Events
Henry came to America, from Germany, at age eleven in 1853 with his parents Anton and Wilhelmina Ludcke. The Ludckes were early pioneers in Nicolet County, Minn. As a young boy he learned the blacksmith trade from his father. He later went to Minneapolis and was employed for seven years by the dry goods store owned by Allen Comstock. He then returned to St. Peter and was employed by the general store Amundson & Anderson. After that worked for the furniture factory operated by William Kline for eight years. In 1883 he opened his own store dealing in wallpapers, paints, picture frames, etc. and had a crew of employees doing painting and wallpapering in homes. Henry had artistic talent. We have a colored pencil drawing of a hen and cock pheasant drawn by him at 81 1/2 years, May 1923. Buried Green Hill Cemetery, Saint Peter, Minnesota. |
