Henry Kuehn was born June 6, 1892 in Michalki, Russia (now Poland). He was baptized the next day, which was Pentecost Monday. Left home on September 15, 1910 and boarded the ship Kaiser Wilhelm II from Bremen Hafen to New York five days later, going through Ellis Island. He never saw his parents again. Arrived in New York on September 27. Lived with brother August in Connecticut. Enrolled in the seminary at Springfield, Illinois. Became a naturalized U. S. citizen in Springfield on February 8, 1919. Graduated from the seminary on June 12, 1919. Returned to Bristol, Connecticut and was ordained there on August 17, 1919. Received call to Alberta, Canada. Installed in Emmanuel Lutheran Church of Waldheim and Trinity Lutheran Church of Bismark. Early in 1921 received call to be a circuit rider in Saskatchewan. Lived in Luseland where Holy Trinity Lutheran Church was located but also served congregations at Earhill, Hentskill, Fusilier, Elk, Denzil and Salvador.

Met Mary Hennig at pastoral conference in Alberta and married her on June 9, 1924. They honeymooned in the Banff-Lake Louise area. Henry enjoyed hunting deer, ducks and pheasants. Accepted a call to Centerville, South Dakota in June 1925, and was installed as pastor of Grace Lutheran on July 19, 1925. Started First English Lutheran Church in 1934 in Centerville. Broadcast sermons over the radio. Accepted a call to Mansfield, South Dakota in 1943. Made homemade dandelion wine. Retired to Elgin, Illinois. Remembered as strict and principled father who always thought of his family. Died in November 1973 in Yuma, Arizona (where for health reasons he spent the winters), but was buried back in Illinois.
