In the 1850 census for St. Tammany Parish, Louisiana, Henry is listed as a lawyer, age 23. In his brother's 1873 bio, Washington Irving states that his mother Jane Howard "was born in Dublin, Ireland, of Anerican parents, and was returned to Dublin and educated, and on her final return to America, was married at an early age..."
