   Henry Hawkins, the son of Amos and Ann (Milhous)was born 29 July 1798 in Union Co., SC. He first married Anna Pearson in 1821. Following her death in 1836, he married Lydia Cook. Lydia was a first cousin and they were dismissed from the church. Reinstated 21 Apr 1870.

  All of Henry and Ann's sons were "disowned" by the Friends between 1851 and 1857.

LAST WILL AND TESTAMENT OF HENRY HAWKINS

WILL: In the name of the benevolent Father of all I Henry Hawkins, of the County of Clinton and State of Ohio being of lawful age and sound mind and memory do make and publish this and this only as my last will and testament in words and figures following to-wit:

ITEM _ I give and bequeath unto my beloved wife Lydia in lieu of her share and dower interest in my estate both real and personal full support and maintenance of the home farm of about 99 acres and on which I now reside in Chester Township Clinton County, Ohio, for an during her natural life with the privileges of residing in the house on, said farm together with all the household and kitchen furniture thereunto belonging; one horse and one cow to be by her selected the Rockaway buggy by me now owned, all the bees on hand at my death and $600 in money, all the sugar kettles, crocks & pertaining to the sugar camp on said farm.

ITEM _ I give and bequeath to my son Noah Hawkins and his children and to share alike, the proceeds of the farm on which he lately resided for and during their natural lives; said farm lies mostly in Warren County Ohio and contains about 98 acres of land save and excepting therefrom about 20 acres as set off and described in the 3rd item in this will to my son Jehu Hawkins, said farm was originally known as the Whitson farm and was willed to me by my father and for the purpose of having said farm managed and cultivated in a husband like manner.

I do hereby appoint Henry Spray, giving him full power to manage the same and pay over any proceeds that may come into his hands according to this item of the will and at the death of said Noah Hawkins and his children then said farm is to go and be equally divided among the grandchildren of said Noah Hawkins or their legal representatives to, have and to hold the same forever but should it turn out at any time that no such children be living to inherit according to the provisions of this will, then the same is to be equally divided among my children or their legal representatives (except my son Mark, who has already had his full share of my estate).

Item 3. I give and bequeath to my son Jehu Hawkins the one undivided one half of 40 acres of land by me owned in Huntington Co. and State of Indiana and on which he lately resided; also about 20 A. the balance of the Whitson Farm, not willed to my son Noah Hawkins as set forth in Item 2 of this will, as lies east of the part set off to him by commencing at a stone in the Camby Mill Road, with a cross on it nearly opposite a rail fence running off in a Northeasterly direction across said farm to the woodland on the same as now cleared thence in a Northerly direction to a stone in the Line of said farm and the home farm, and also about 15 acres out of a 25 acres tract of land by me bought of my brother John Hawkins and wife as will lie N. of a line by -- - commencing at a stone with a cross upon it in the Camby Mill Road; thence in an easterly direction up on a hollow, to Elijah Hawkins N. E. Corner in the old Bullskin Road thence N. with said road & David Jay's line to a stone, corner to said Jay in the Camby Mill road, thence in a westerly direct) across said road and down a hedge fence 9 1/2 poles and corner to the Whitson Farm also the sum of $800 it being the same as is provided for in the 5th Item of this will, to him and the heirs of his body during their lives to-him first and then to such heirs and at his death Should there be no such heirs then and in that event, said real estate is to be equally divided amongst-all my children or their legal representatives except my son Mark Hawkins as before mentioned provided however that at any time during the lifetime Of my said son Jehu Hawkins should he have children to arrive at the age Of five yrs then and in that event he is to have said lands before mentioned to use sell or occupy as his own forever.

ITEM 4. I give and bequeath unto my son Elijah Hawkins the farm on which he now resides and known as the Phares Compton farm containing about 85 acres of land, to have and to hold said land for himself and his heirs forever.

ITEM 5. I give and bequeath unto my grandson Jonas E. Hawkins son of my son Charles decd. the home farm on which I now reside containing about 99 acres of land, he paying to my son Jehu Hawkins the sum of $800 as mentioned in the 3rd Item of this will to be paid as follows, viz: in four equal Annual payments without interest, the first payment to be made in 12 months after he gets possession of said farm after my death, unless he should not be of lawful age then and in that case said payment to commence 12 months after he shall become of such age and also subject to the incumbrance of my wife Lydia’s support as set forth in the first item of this will to him and his l heirs forever.

ITEM 6. I give and bequeath to my friend Fanny Loudon now of Brown County Ohio, and to be paid to her out of the proceeds of the undivided half of 160 acres of land by me jointly owned with my said grandson Jonas E. Hawkins but no division or sale of lands to take place, until my said grandson shall arrive at the age of 21 years said lands are lying and being in Tipton County, and State of Indian.

ITEM 7. It is my will that all the residue of my real and personal property not disposed of in the foregoing items of this will shall be equally divided among my children and my grandson Jonas E. Hawkins or their legal representatives, according to the tenor of this will except my son Mark Hawkins who has had his full share as before mentioned. 

ITEM 8. For the purpose of having this my last will and testament, carried into effect, I do hereby nominate and appoint my friend Jess Spray Jr. and his son Henry Spray of Chester Township, Clinton County, Ohio, as the Executors of this, my last will requesting them first to pay all my Just debts and funeral expenses.

In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 3rd day of May 1877, to this and this only as my last will and testament hereby revoking all former wills by me heretofore made.

    The "bee cholera" is raging in Clinton county, Ohio.  Henry Hawkins, of New Burlington, has lost thirty out of eighty hives.
