In 1766, the family moved about 50 miles south to a spot on Woodpecker Creek in Mecklenburg County. Proof that the Hastings lived in this area is found in a deed dated 8-9-1770 to wit "Charles Burton to Mark Moore on both sides of Woodpecker Creek, the mouth of Buzzard Branch, bounded by Henry Hastin, Charles Lucas, James Hall, etal"

The name of Henry's wife was obtained from the following deed information of 3/25/1763 from Amelia County, VA. "Henry Hastin of Nottoway Parish and wife Mary to Francis Epes for 40lb 200a on s/s of Coller Cr. Bounded by Frc. Epes, Cousins, Moore, Bowrey, & main rd known as Irby's Rd.- this land purch by HH from James Hinton in 1753."
