- HENRY2 GATES, SR. (RALPH1) was born 20 December 1790 in Greenbrier Co., [W]VA8, and died 22 December 1862 in Tippecanoe Co., IN8. He married ELEANOR ROCK 2 December 1819 in Clark Co., OH9, daughter of PATRICK ROCK and ROSANNA. She was born Abt. 1796 in Kentucky, and died 20 June 1869 in Tippecanoe Co., IN.
Notes for HENRY GATES, SR.: Henry came to Tippecanoe Co. with his family from Clark Co., Ohio around 1827. He settled in Shelby Twp. where he purchased 160 acres. He is listed as purchasing the land in the First Tract Book of Tippecanoe Co.

1846 Apr 03 - HENRY GATES, of Tippecanoe Co., IN, sells lot 277 in the town of Springfield, OH [which was sold to JAMES GATES Jun 23, 1821] to JOHN GATES, of Clark Co., OH. The deed stated that HENRY and JOHN GATES were surviving brothers and sole heirs of JAMES GATES.
1850 Oct 28 - HENRY GATES files for Bounty Land Warrant from Tippecanoe County, Indiana, for service in Capt. James Gates Company during the War of 1812--- "On this twenty-eighth day of October in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and fifty, personally appeared before me a Notary Public with and for said County and State, Henry Gates aged fifty nine years on the 20th day of December 1849, a resident of the County of Tippecanoe and State of Indiana, who being duly sworn according to law declares that he is the identical Henry Gates who was a private in the Company of Riflemen commanded by Colonel Tupper in the war with Great Britain declared by the United States on the 18th day of June 1812, that he volunteered at Urbanna in the State of Ohio on or about the 20th day of June 1812 to serve for the space of six months, that immediately after such volunteering the said company was, under the direction of Governor Meigs of the State of Ohio, detached and employed there as a Company of Rangers to guard the frontiers against the depredations of the Indians that said company was actively employed in such service until late in the fall of 1812, and that this deponent and others of said company returned home on or about the 30th day of October 1812, that this deponent with the other members of said company was again called out by Governor Meigs in the spring of 1813 (the precise time not recollected) and was again employed in such ranger service until on or about the last day of November 1813 when he was honorably discharged from service, but this deponent never received a written discharge. He makes this declaration for the purpose of obtaining the Bounty Land to which he may be entitled under the Act granting Bounty Land to certain officers and soldiers who have been engaged in the military service of the United States : passed September 28, 1850."
1855 Apr 3 - HENRY GATES files for Bounty Land Warrant from Tippecanoe County, Indiana, for service in Capt. James Gates Company during the War of 1812--- "...personally appeared before me, the Mayor of the City of Lafayette within the County and State aforesaid Henry Gates aged Sixty-five years, a resident of Tippecanoe County in the State of Indiana, who, being duly sworn according to law, declares that he is the identical Henry Gates who was a Private in the Company commanded by Captain James Gates in the __ Regiment of Ohio Militia commanded by Col. Tupper, in the war with Great Britain declared by the United States on the 18th day of June 1812 for the term of about four months and continued in actual service in said war for fourteen days; that he has heretofore made application for bounty land under the act of September 28, 1850, and received a Land Warrant No. 2314 for forty acres which he has since legally disposed of, and cannot now return. He makes this declaration for the purpose of obtaining the additional bounty land to which he may be entitled under the act approved the 3rd day of March, 1855. He also declares, that he has never applied for nor received, under this or any other Act of Congress, any Bounty Land Warrant, except for the one above mentioned."
