    Henry N. Bechard Sr., 92, of Keene and Palm City, Fla., died July 27, 2003, at Langdon Place in Keene after an extended illness, surrounded by his family.
    Mr. Bechard was born May 19, 1911, in Nashua, son of the late Charles and Alida (Masson) Bechard.
    He was the widower of Jeannette (Burelle) Bechard, whom he married in June 1935. She died Nov. 11, 2002.
    Mr. Bechard began his professional career with Public Service Co. in Nashua and in 1940 joined the Metropolitan Life Insurance Co., also in Nashua, as an agent. In 1946 he started his own insurance agency, The Bechard Insurance Agency of Nashua, and also purchased a number of local insurance firms. He also founded a successful real estate firm, The Bechard-Guertin Real Estate Co., also of Nashua. He continued to be active in the growth of his companies until his retirement in 1983.
    He was an active member of the Nashua Country Club for more than 50 years. He was a member of the Young Business Men's Club and the Lions Club. He served as president of the Nashua Rotary Club, the Greater Nashua Chamber of Commerce, the Nashua Community Council, St. Joseph Hospital Advisory Board and the Rivier College Advisory Board, and as chairperson of the Nashua Airport Authority. He was also a member of the Nashua Park Recreation Commission and the New Hampshire Uniform Motor Vehicle Commission, which was appointed by Gov. John King.
    Mr. Bechard also served as either chairperson, president or member of a number of charitable organizations including the Fresh Air Camp, the Cancer Fund, the Heart Association and the March of Dimes. He was a past member of the Nashua Life Underwriters and the Independent Insurance Agents Association of New Hampshire, as well as the national Independent Insurance Agents. He served as a director of the Professional Insurance Agents Association and was a charter member of the Insurance Fire Mark Association.
    He was predeceased by a brother, Raymond Bechard, who was killed in France while serving with the Army during World War II.
    Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Henry Jr. and Nancye Bechard of Bedford; two daughters and a son-in-law, Jeannine Fallon of Livingston, Texas, and Suzanne and Dale Woodward of Keene; eight grandchildren, John and Deborah Bechard, Jeffery and Jason Ratoff, Brian and Karin Polak and Lindsey and Brittany Woodward; a sister and brother-in-law, Lorraine and Robert Dionne of Keene; and several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
