    Mr. H. J. Battles, one of the oldest residents of Brainerd, died on Wednesday, the 6th inst., of consumption. He was an old soldier, having served the government during the rebellion in the Missouri Home Guards. Five children are left to mourn his loss. The funeral services will be held tomorrow (Saturday) afternoon at 2 o'clock, at the residence of the deceased's son-in-law, John Clarke, in Southeast Brainerd. Rev. Rowe will conduct the services.
